There are three types, Simple Sentences, Complex Sentences and Compound Sentences. 単文、複文、重文の三種類がある。 |
| - Simple Sentences 単文 |
|
There is only one relationship between subject and predicate. 主語と述語の関係が１つだけ。 |

私は とても 楽しかった。 わたしは とても たのしかった。 watashiwa totemo tanoshikatta. I had a lot of fun. |
| - Complex Sentences 複文 |
|
There are two or more relationships between subjects and predicates, which are not in a parallel (equal) relationship. 主語と述語の関係が２つ以上あり、それが並立（対等）の関係にない。 |

昨日 雨が 降っていたので、 私は 家にいました。 きのう あめが ふっていたので、 わたしは いえにいました。 kinou amega futteitanode, watashiwa ieniimashita. Since it was raining yesterday, I stayed home. |
| - Compound Sentences 重文 |
|
